Affordable education

You are encouraged to apply for every scholarship you might be eligible to receive. The required steps and materials for each scholarship application are included below.

Guy Callaway, Sr. Outstanding Senior Premedical Student Scholarship

Value

Generally a single award will be made, but the number of awards is dependent on the availability of funding and quality of candidates.  Awards will always be valued at $1,500.

Application

Complete the General and Departmental Scholarship Application by March 1.

Selection criteria

$1500 awards given annually to the top senior applicant with plans to graduate in the coming academic year and attend medical school the following fall. Must have 60 credit hours completed, and must be on track to graduate within four semesters (not including summer semesters). The student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher. Students on track to graduate by the end of the current academic year (generally seniors). All students must submit a resume of their experience in the health-care field that provides significant exposure to practicing physicians (i.e. shadowing, internships, employment, etc.). Students must also submit a resume of their other extracurricular activities. Preference will be given to students that submit a letter of recommendation from their MSU faculty advisor. Ultimately, all students will be evaluated based on academic record, health-care experience, and service and involvement. Leadership will also be required.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship cannot be renewed. 

Roy T. and Mildred Durr Wilcox Scholarship in the College of Health and Human Services

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a junior or senior seeking an undergraduate degree in the College of Health and Human Services. Award made with regard to financial need. Scholarship automatically renewed for one additional year as long as the student maintains a cumulative GPA of 2.5 and is enrolled in full-time.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship is renewed automatically. Automatically renewed and can be received for a total of 2 years by an individual student as long as that student maintains a 2.5 GPA and is enrolled full-time.

College of Health and Human Services Scholarship Fund

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a full-time graduate or undergraduate student seeking a degree in the College of Health and Human Services. Student must have been enrolled in the major for at least 1 semester and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship cannot be renewed.

Dr. Norman Dobson Memorial Scholarship

Selection criteria

Awarded to a junior or senior or graduate level student majoring in biology, chemistry, physics, material science, industrial management, or biomedical sciences. The student must have maintained an overall GPA of 3.0 and a major GPA of 3.75. Student must be enrolled in 12 hours per semester, and recipient will be selected with regard to financial need.

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal. 

Smith-Glynn-Callaway Medical Foundation Premedical Scholarships

Selection criteria

The scholarship selection committee shall award $1000 awards to students with plans to eventually attend medical school. Must have completed and be enrolled in a total of 60 credit hours, and must be on track to graduate within four semesters (not including summer semesters). The student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher. All students must submit a resume of their experience in the health-care field that provides significant exposure to practicing physicians (i.e. shadowing, internships, employment, etc.). Students must also submit a resume of their other extracurricular activities. Preference will be given to those students that submit a letter of recommendation from their MSU faculty advisor. Ultimately, all students will be evaluated based on academic record, health-care experience, and service and involvement.

Athletic Training Student Scholarship

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a student that is sophomore or junior at the time of selection in the Athletic Training Education Program. Students must have a departmental GPA of 3.5, and have a clinical evaluation score of 3.0 in all clinical assignment. Student must have attended at least 2 professional conferences at no less than 2 different levels (i.e. local, state, district, national).

This scholarship cannot be renewed. 

Karen Toburen SMAT Senior Achievement Award

Selection criteria

SMAT Scholarship Committee will make awards annually to a graduating senior in the Athletic Training program.  Student must have a GPA of 3.5 in all undergraduate Athletics Training coursework.  Student must have evidence of leadership in two of the three areas: Campus, Community, Professional Activities.  Consideration will be given for elected and/or volunteer leadership activities.  Attendance at an Athletic Training conference at the state, district, or national level is required.

Gary Ward SMAT Alumni Scholarship Fund

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a first, second or third year student in the Athletic Training Education Program. Preference given to those students that submit an essay discussing their dedication to the profession of athletic training, their professional and ethical behavior, heir community and campus service, and their characteristics of an adult learner. Preference also for those students that have a membership in the National Athletic Trainers' Association.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship cannot be renewed. 

Harvey Michael Memorial Athletic Trainer Scholarship

Selection criteria

Scholarship will be awarded annually to a full-time undergraduate or graduate Athletic Training student that is a sophomore or greater and shows great promise in the field.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal. 

Lyons-Andre Athletic Trainer Memorial Scholarship

Selection criteria

Scholarship will be awarded annually to an Athletic Training students that has demonstrated need. Consideration will be given to GPA and aptitude in the field of Athletic Training.

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal. 

Sports Medicine and Athletic Training Scholarships

Selection criteria

There are no requirements for this scholarship other than being a student in the Athletic Training Program.

This scholarship cannot be renewed. 

Brent Carter Edwards Memorial Scholarship

Selection criteria

Scholarship will be awarded annually to an undergraduate or graduate Athletic Training student.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal.
