You are encouraged to apply for every scholarship you might be eligible to receive. The required steps and materials for each scholarship application are included below.

Mercy Sports Medicine & Athletic Training Scholarship

Selection criteria

The Recipient of this award will be a current student properly enrolled at Missouri State University in the Department of Sports Medicine and Athletic Training.  Preference will be given to a student who has demonstrated a high level of achievement based upon leadership, volunteer activities, service, professional development, and great potential within athletic training.  Preference should be given to a student demonstrating financial need.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal. 

Wade Shipman Memorial Scholarship

The Dr. Wade Shipman Scholarship fund was established in 2015 and is distributed by a scholarship board/advisory council including the Shipman family, MSU Anesthesia representatives, and Mercy Anesthesia representatives in conjunction with Mercy Foundation.

Funding

The pledge form for this scholarship can be found online at WadeShipman.com. All donations are 100% tax deductible, and 100% of the contributions go to the fund.

Selection criteria

The recipient of this award must meet these three criteria:

  1. Retaining a good academic status with a GPA of at least 2.00 in Missouri State's School of Anesthesia.
  2. Currently in the 2nd or 3rd year of the clinical phase of the program.
  3. Excellent performance in all clinical aspects of the program, as acknowledged by the program director.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship cannot be renewed. 

Silva Scholarship

The Silva Scholarship was established in 2019 by John Silva, an MSU School of Anesthesia alumnus, and is presented annually to a MSU School of Anesthesia student.

Selection criteria

The recipient of this award must be a second year student at Missouri State and show exemplary clinical skills.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship cannot be renewed. 

The Crabtree Family Nurse Anesthetist Scholarship

Selection criteria

The recipient of this award will be a full-time student properly enrolled at Missouri State in the Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice program. The recipient must also have an overall GPA of 3.4 or higher.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship cannot be renewed. 

Dr. Bart Kuhns DNAP Fund

Selection criteria

The recipient of this award shall be: a non-traditional student properly enrolled in Missouri State's School of Anesthesia, Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice program, also known as DNAP. A non-traditional student being defined as a working, married, parent or 22+ years of age. Student must provide a one-page essay of how this award will be beneficial during their second semester of this program.

This scholarship cannot be renewed. 

Dr. Wesley and Phyllis Bair Health and Human Services Scholarship

Value

The scholarship is valued at $1,000. The number of scholarships shall be equally distributed between the departments within the College of Health and Human Services.

Complete the MSU Annual Scholarship Application by March 1.

Selection criteria

The Recipients of this award will be undergraduate or graduate students seeking a degree within the College of Health and Human Services and properly enrolled at Missouri State University. Recipients must be a junior, senior, or graduate with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher. Preference given to first generation college students.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal. 

Guy Callaway, Sr. Outstanding Senior Premedical Student Scholarship

Value

Generally a single award will be made, but the number of awards is dependent on the availability of funding and quality of candidates.  Awards will always be valued at $1,500.

Application

Complete the MSU Annual Scholarship Application by March 1.

Selection criteria

$1500 awards given annually to the top senior applicant with plans to graduate in the coming academic year and attend medical school the following fall. Must have 60 credit hours completed, and must be on track to graduate within four semesters (not including summer semesters). The student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher. Students on track to graduate by the end of the current academic year (generally seniors). All students must submit a resume of their experience in the health-care field that provides significant exposure to practicing physicians (i.e. shadowing, internships, employment, etc.). Students must also submit a resume of their other extracurricular activities. Preference will be given to students that submit a letter of recommendation from their MSU faculty advisor. Ultimately, all students will be evaluated based on academic record, health-care experience, and service and involvement. Leadership will also be required.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship cannot be renewed. 

Roy T. and Mildred Durr Wilcox Scholarship in the College of Health and Human Services

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a junior or senior seeking an undergraduate degree in the College of Health and Human Services. Award made with regard to financial need. Scholarship automatically renewed for one additional year as long as the student maintains a cumulative GPA of 2.5 and is enrolled in full-time.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship is renewed automatically. Automatically renewed and can be received for a total of 2 years by an individual student as long as that student maintains a 2.5 GPA and is enrolled full-time.

College of Health and Human Services Scholarship Fund

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a full-time graduate or undergraduate student seeking a degree in the College of Health and Human Services. Student must have been enrolled in the major for at least 1 semester and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship cannot be renewed. 

Guy Callaway, Sr. Outstanding Junior Premedical Student Scholarship

Value

Generally a single award will be made, but the number of awards is dependent on the availability of funding and quality of candidates.  Awards will always be valued at $1,500.

Application

Selection criteria

Dr. Norman Dobson Memorial Scholarship

Selection criteria

Awarded to a junior or senior or graduate level student majoring in biology, chemistry, physics, material science, industrial management, or biomedical sciences. The student must have maintained an overall GPA of 3.0 and a major GPA of 3.75. Student must be enrolled in 12 hours per semester, and recipient will be selected with regard to financial need.

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal. 

Smith-Glynn-Callaway Medical Foundation Premedical Scholarships

Value

Number of awards is dependent on the availability of funding and quality of candidates.  Awards will always be valued at $1,000.

Application

Complete the MSU Annual Scholarship Application by March 1.

Selection criteria

The scholarship selection committee shall award $1000 awards to students with plans to eventually attend medical school. Must have completed and be enrolled in a total of 60 credit hours, and must be on track to graduate within four semesters (not including summer semesters). Karen Toburen SMAT Senior Achievement Award

Value

Number of scholarships and value dependent on the availability of funding, but awards are generally $500.

Gary Ward SMAT Alumni Scholarship Fund

Value

Number of scholarships and value dependent on the availability of funding, but awards are generally $500.

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to an athletic training student enrolled at Missouri State University. Preference will be given to students who have demonstrated a high level of achievement based upon GPA, leadership, volunteer activities and service, as well as professional development.

Harvey Michael Memorial Athletic Trainer Scholarship

Value

A single scholarship will be awarded, but value is dependent on the availability of funding.  Generally awards are $1,000.

Selection criteria

Scholarship will be awarded annually to a full-time undergraduate or graduate Athletic Training student that is a sophomore or greater and shows great promise in the field.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal. 

Lyons-Andre Athletic Trainer Memorial Scholarship

Value

A single scholarship will be awarded, but the value is dependent on the availability of funding, generally awards are $500.

Sports Medicine and Athletic Training Scholarships

Selection criteria

There are no requirements for this scholarship other than being a student in the Athletic Training Program.

Brent Carter Edwards Memorial Scholarship

Value

Number of scholarships and value dependent on the availability of funding, but awards are generally $500.

Application

Selection criteria
